Biography

RAS Radiation Oncologist Garrick Chang, M.D. received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and completed his residency at the University of California at San Francisco in Radiation Oncology. His advanced training includes specialization in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image-guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR) for the treatment of prostate cancer. Dr. Chang, who works out of the Carmichael Radiation Oncology Center located on the Mercy San Juan Medical Center campus has been instrumental in introducing a number of new cancer treatment technologies to the greater Sacramento community including IMRT, and more recently IGRT using On-board Imaging with cone-beam CT scanning; this technique markedly improves tumor targeting using 3-dimensional digital imaging immediately prior to treatment resulting in fewer side effects for patients. His pioneering spirit guides him personally as well with interests in fishing, backpacking and backcountry skiing. Dr. Chang, his wife, two daughters and two Labrador retrievers live in Davis where he grew up.
